President Obama started his speech on the topic of the Iraq war mainly mentioning how many troops were brought home. Second, he talked about the economy of course, explaining how everything got so chaotic. He presented a blueprint plan to restore our economy with four main goals. He’s going to focus on new manufacturing and bringing in American made products, new skilled workers, American energy, and renewal of values. His absolute purpose is to bring jobs back to America and stop the black market. Next, he discussed making the education system better including colleges by decreasing tuition and creating more learn-work programs. For those that don’t want to go to college he wants to provide some kind of learning program that leads straight to a job. He also talked about becoming more independent on oil and making the U.S number 1 again compared to countries like China.
I feel multiple things about Obama’s speech. I agreed with so much of what he said for example doing more American manufacturing, his ideas for taxes, the work study programs, being more independent, even some of his immigration reforms. However it seems like something keeps stopping him maybe it’s congress I’m not sure. Something needs to change and he has the right ideas they just need to be put into action. He made an excellent point that congress doesn’t need to be so separated like one could be republican but agree with what some of the democrats have to say. Also, he was constantly saying “I will sign it right now” or “send me a bill” so I think it’s not necessarily his fault nothing has changed it’s like he wants things to happen but congress won’t let him. I feel hopeful but also cynical because it seems like these things have been said before. After hearing this speech I’m considering looking more into congress when election time comes around again.
